We also specialize in the treatment of infants and children with bladder exstrophy, cloacal exstrophy, epispadias, and any variations of the bladder exstrophy-epispadias complex (BEEC). It may lead to HDUN and CKD.

These rare anomalies of the Genito-urinary tract of fetus may be detected during pregnancy(ante-natal scans).

We plan resuscitation soon after birth evaluation of anomalies at specialized pediatric center. Then we plan surgical reconstruction of anomaly and functional improvement.

A multidisciplinary, coordinated team including experts in pediatric urology, orthopaedics, maternal-fetal medicine, neonatology, anesthesia, radiology, nephrology, pelvic floor physiotherapy, biofeedback, clinical psychology.

Treatment Planning

Exstrophy-Epispadias repair and long-term care

Surgical repair of exstrophy is done in neonatal period. A reconstructive surgery called the complete primary repair of exstrophy (CPRE), which achieves all the goals of surgical correction in one operation.

The CPRE allows for more normal bladder function to begin earlier and optimizes chances for long-term continence.

After surgery and reconstruction, children require long-term disease management focused on optimizing urinary control, appearance and function of the genitalia, and preservation of kidney function.

The behavioural therapy provides strength and pubic muscle coordination to help these children develop continence earlier without a secondary bladder neck reconstruction.
